Just over a year ago, at the encouragement of University leadership, a group of alums began working to formalize a UNC LGBTQ Alumni Network.

“While we aim to serve the needs of Carolina’s LGBTQ community, we are here as a resource for the entire community, as well as anyone with LGBTQ individuals in their lives,” Phoenix said.

Elizabeth Trefney’s ’21 uncle Jeremy died of AIDS, but his friends created panel 766 in the AIDS Memorial Quilt in his honor. To put a face to the virus that still affects nearly 37 million people, Trefney brought his panel to campus.
